Miller's Mod Squad, AuGres, Michigan.
It is hard to consider myself owning a "kennel" since I only own two dogs! My first dog, Scout, pulled me on a scooter for 1 1/2 years before I decided to try my hand at sled racing in the 3 dog class. I needed at least two dogs to compete and got a Seppala female from Wisconsin for my "team". That is how the term "Mod Squad" came about; Scout is an Alaskan and Yzey was a pure bred. We did very well for my first year in the 3 dog class using only two dogs. I was hooked on recreational dog-sledding, but the summer of 2004, my female had to be put to sleep due to a brain tumor. I was now on the look-out for another dog. My lead dog, Scout, is very fast and I needed a good dog to be able to keep up! So, of course, I looked into the Seppalas! I now own the puppy, Starfire's Legolas, who will run in next year's races. I will be using a loaner dog from Starfire Siberians for this season's races.
My family belongs to MUSH (Mid Union Sled Haulers) and my thirteen year old is excited about racing in the junior races this year with two borrowed dogs. I am looking forward to racing again this season and even co-chairing a race in Tawas, Michigan. We are excited to be using such fine looking dogs from Starfire Siberians!
